Not what I meant. I wanted to emphasize that the issue of music style and content is an ancient issue that apparently will continue to be a point of controversy until we either learn to walk in the Spirit and give deference to one another, or we get to heaven.Bob Tollivernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2134143779763240356.post-81175305464121159422013-02-27T20:45:44.885-05:002013-02-27T20:45:44.885-05:00With a degree in music in my backpack I've bee...With a degree in music in my backpack I've been carrying around for 56 years, let me simply say that virtually every generation has had religious music that was shallow, poorly framed in a bad music style, "feelings" driven, and scripturally unsound. That's simply because we have immature and "feelings" driven musicians who do the writing.

Even Bach was almost ridden out on a rail when he introduced a non-Gregorian type of music and dared to use an organ and a guitar in a church service . . . simply because of style and not because of substance.

At the same time, every generation has had solid music that has been effectively used to both encourage and strengthen the believer and also draw the lost to salvation. I've been in numerous settings where even music designed exclusively for the believer resulted in lost people being impacted by the words and by what they saw on the faces of the worshipers.Bob Tolliverhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/113954278699704/?fref=ts#!/bob.tolliver.52noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2134143779763240356.post-54424479813732880192013-02-27T20:44:35.789-05:002013-02-27T20:44:35.789-05:00My criticisms weren't those, but explicitly mi...My criticisms weren't those, but explicitly mission drift occurring when you try to use worship to lure or reach lost people, leading to the shallow song Sundays. I am grateful for the music that has been more Christ centered as of late with some contemporary music.Jason Dawsonhttps://www.facebook.com/urbanreformernoreply@blogger.com
